1. What is your name and where are you from?
I’m Aja (Asia) and I’m from a remote island in southeast Alaska. I now live in Anchorage Alaska.
2. What is your craft? How long have you been crafting? And how did you learn?
I’ve been knitting for 15 years. I love it so much. I picked it up in high school. Crochet woke my love for fiber arts. I made no less than 1000 crochet scarves (ok maybe that’s an exaggeration) in the first year i learned crochet. The following year a friend taught me how to knit using two pencils and acrylic white yarn. My friend’s name was Mystique, she was kind and patient and we had a blast together every Day during our lunch hour.
3. What is your favorite project?
My favorite project in knitting are garments-specifically sweaters.
4. Who is your crafting inspiration?
I have SOOOO many. In the non-knitting community it would be Prince because his whole vibe was a bop, may he Rest In Peace. Fiber artists and designers that inspire me are Holly (IG@discostitch) Jessie (IG@jesssiemae) Helene (IG@fabelknitwear) myfavouritethings.knitwear, Shay (IG@knitandcroshay) and sooo many more.
5. What advice would you give a crafter who has just begun her crafting journey?
I would advise to enjoy the process! Be patient with yourself. Try to have attainable goals and challenge yourself from there. Also be mindful of all the craft supplies you consume. This should be self care for you. And before you embark on using your craft as a hustle/way to provide for yourself or family, weigh all the positives and negatives for doing so. I tried to sell finished knitted objects for profit and it sucked all the joy of knitting from me.
6. How can we connect with you?
Connect with me mostly on Instagram (@ajaknits). I also have a Facebook page by the same name but the content is the same as my ig and less frequent.
Thank you for sharing Aja!
